DAY OF SURGERY

Do not have anything to eat or drink after midnight the night before your surgery. Your surgery may need to be cancelled of postponed if you eat or drink too close to the time of your surgery, On the morning of surgery, if you need to take any medications, you may do so with a small sip of water.

Do not shave the surgical site yourself.​ Do not take a bath or shower before you come to the hospital for surgery. Do not apply lotions, perfumes, deodorants, or nail polish.

 

Remove all jewelry, piercings, and contact lenses.

 

You should wear loose and comfortable clothing that can accommodate a sling or brace that you might need after surgery.

Bring a photo ID with you to the hospital or surgery center.​ Leave valuables at home (jewelry, computers, tablets, etc.)

You must arrange to have someone drive you home after surgery. You will not be able to drive safely after you receive anesthesia and pain medication.

 

You may want to arrange to have someone help you at home after surgery. This is especially important if you live alone or provide care for another person.
